How Sterling reads in a room
Sterling reads warm and open — the kind of pale, honeyed oak that makes a room feel larger and hides Florida sand between cleans. Planks are 9″x60″, which is a wide, long board — fewer seams across a floor, and it makes a small room look longer than a narrow strip would.
Where a 20mil, 5mm floor works
A 20mil wear layer is the sweet spot for a busy family home — well above the 12mil builders typically use, and enough to shrug off pet claws and grit tracked in from the pool.
At 5mm this is a slimmer plank. It needs a flatter subfloor than a thicker board, but it keeps height down where you are butting up to tile or carpet you are not replacing. The attached IXPE pad takes the hollow click out of the step and quiets the room below.
